This year we’re introducing a new concept- camp Pods!
What’s a Pod?
- Pods are mini-camps scattered around the land at the fabulous gathering (map and land specifics to come!) Pods will camp together, share resources, and allow us to make sure folks get to camp alongside friends both old and new.
- Each Pod will have a Fairy Land Parent who acts as a point person to communicate any needs or issues to the hosts and is the general lead for pod related housekeeping- and keep us all on track during volunteer duty!
How are Pods decided?
- We are planning the pod groupings based on existing friendships/requests made in the survey, camping experience level, and ensuring anyone new to the land or to the community is welcomed into the mix by folks who know the ropes.
But not all my friends are in my Pod! Does that mean we don’t get to hang out?
- While bonding, teamwork, and lifelong blood oaths are encouraged within your pod, you are by no means designated to do everything together. Think of it as your home base throughout the weekend as you explore.
- Campsites will be roughly pre-marked in a few camping areas around the land, will be first come first served, and will all be closely neighboring. Consider an inter-pod allegiance, and coordinating camp locations!
So what about resource sharing?
- We’ll provide more info on how to pack and prepare, and encourage discussion amongst your pod for gear sharing. It is likely some of you will have extras and some will have needs, and the idea is to minimize new purchases if they aren’t needed. Specifically, we ask that each pod have one propane camp stove between you to ensure there are plenty available for cooking meals.
- Meal planning is also highly recommended- this helps minimize overbuying (there’s only so many jars of peanut butter any one group needs) and minimize food waste.
- Recommended packing and grocery lists will be incoming on the Landweb, so check back if this will be helpful.
Have fun with it! Come up with a Pod name, decorate your mini camp, battle neighboring Pods… (just kidding…unless?)
As always, reach out to any of your hosts with any questions or concerns about this new element of the Gathering.
